Apple artificially restricts iPad Air/Pro M-series hardware with a limited mobile OS. We demand that the EU enforces the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to unlock a full desktop interface (Mac OS Touch) when connecting an authorized keyboard via the physical Smart Connector.
European iPad users, consumers, and students who demand full laptop-class software capability.
Apple equips iPads with desktop-class M-chips but restricts them with a mobile interface. Under Article 6(7) of the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), iPadOS must provide full hardware interoperability. Blocking desktop features to protect MacBook sales artificially degrades hardware paid for by EU citizens, while restricting third-party accessories creates unfair monopoly conditions.
We request the European Commission to enforce the DMA and compel Apple to launch a full desktop interface (Mac OS Touch) when a keyboard connects via the Smart Connector. Furthermore, Apple must open Smart Connector pinouts to third-party manufacturers under fair terms, ensuring fire safety checks don't create artificial monopolies.
